About the role

We are looking for an Environmental Engineer to play a key role in providing strategy and support to the Tailings and Water team in our Weipa Operations. This is an operational role where you will work closely with the team to oversee management of facilities including Tailings and Water Storage dams, 6 Water Supply Schemes, multiple Water and Waste Water Treatment Plants, Waste Management Facilities and other ancillary operations associated with the Town of Weipa, East Weipa, Andoom and Amrun Mining Operations.

Working Monday to Friday and reporting to the Superintendent Tailings and Water, you will:

• Work within a team to improve site performance for surface, process and groundwater management
• Participate in incident investigations to identify root causes and corrective actions
• Be a trusted technical partner to identify best practices in water management and help implement them in terms of treatment, monitoring and analysis
• Provide technical support for operation of water and wastewater treatment plants
• Support site to maintain regulatory compliance and Rio Tinto standards
• Evaluate the risks related to water management on sites and help prioritize corrective measures
• Improve data management by improving existing tools and participating in the implementation of the data management system
• Manage specialized external consultants

What you will bring

• An Environmental, Civil or Chemical Engineering Degree
• Experience in water and wastewater treatment
• Demonstrated ability to project manage small teams of contractors and consultants

It will also be beneficial if you have:

• Demonstrated experience in leading teams
• Exposure and previous experience with SCADA systems, Factory talk, Citect
• Experience with Goldsim Modelling
• Strong MS Office skills, specifically in Excel and MS Project
