El1 Financial Accountant

Description:

Join a Federal Government agency located centrally in Canberra and with national offices around Australia. They are in the midst of a digital transformation program whilst continuing vital services to the Australian community. This role could be located in Canberra, Brisbane or Sydney.

The Opportunity

This opportunity presents as a 12 month non-ongoing contract or a temporary transfer. Those with experience in financial accounting in a Government Agency will be highly regarded as this is a technical Commonwealth accounting position requiring good knowledge of departmental, administered and assets reporting.

The broader organisation is undergoing significant change and transformation, so you will have the chance to come up with and drive various improvement initiatives under a supportive and outcomes focussed CFO / Finance SES.

This organisation has national offices with the finance team working across Australia, so there has long been a culture of MS Teams meetings and remote work. You will have the option, as an ongoing arrangement, of up to 3 days per week working from home (once established in the role).

This role suits an established EL1 with Commonwealth financial reporting experience or a highly experienced APS6 financial accountant looking for a 12 month EL1 level temporary transfer. This role may also suit an APS accountant seeking a move to Sydney or Brisbane.

The Role

• Plan and prepare statutory financial statements, final budget outcome and monthly financial reporting, including CBMS update
• Prepare technical accounting papers
• Manage general ledger and accounting controls processes
• Provide ideas and implement business process improvement initiatives
• Review and update Financial Policies and provide advice to business areas
• Liaison with key internal and external stakeholders including the ANAO
• Staff management, supervision and coaching
• Your focus will largely be on Departmental reporting

Your Background and Experience

You are a person who has strong technical accounting skills (perhaps gleaned from prior roles in audit/assurance, financial statements, or taxation) and a friendly/outgoing personality with a desire to engage with the wider business.

You have high attention to detail, are naturally curious in understanding the numbers, and work diligently in leading others to deliver outcomes amongst tight deadlines.

Relevant degree qualifications with a CA/CPA or strong progress towards is essential. Existing hands on experience with Government accounting frameworks is required.

Australian citizenship is mandatory for this role as a Baseline clearance will be required.

Salary / Rate

• $110K – $118K + enhanced Super
• 12 month contract or temporary transfer for existing APS employees
• Central Canberra location
• Up to 3 days per week working from home
