Description:
A small IT team maintains the key legislative information databases and systems, and manages the Office's Windows network environment, a virtualised Windows Server 2019 network running on a VMWare platform. The SOE comprises Windows 10 Professional client workstations, with main applications including HP CM 9.3, Microsoft Office 2019 with customisation and in house developed systems on a SQL Server 2016 database server.
Apart from managing the department's computer network, the IT Team is also responsible for developing and enhancing the specialised application systems for the office. Over the coming years, the projects that the departments IT team intends to work on include:
- enhancement and re-development of outdated business systems
- the redevelopment of the MS VBA based Word templates using Microsoft Dot Net
- implementation of Office 365 and SharePoint
KEY DUTIES
- Lead and develop new applications and systems for the department including:
- re-developing the MS VBA based Word 2019 templates and ribbons into MS Dot Net technology. The role will be required to build the basic building blocks which can be re-used and configured to new legislation drafting templates
- leading, designing, developing, testing, maintaining and supporting department applications
- collecting requirements from department users, developing business and technical specifications
- producing thorough and complete technical and user documentations
- maintaining a professional system design and development best practice and standard to enable future system maintenance and enhancement by other IT professionals
- As required, assist in the maintenance of current applications and systems for the department until they are replaced by new systems, including:
- MS VBA based Word 2019 templates and ribbons
- MS Access / SQL based legislation workflow management systems
- As required, assist, contribute and participate in various IT projects, including a project for a new department workflow management system, Content Manager upgrades, Microsoft Office suite upgrades/migration, Cloud roll out
- Provide system support and enhancement to the current department systems, including:
- VBA based workflow management systems
- VBA based word templates / ribbons
- Work as part of a team to provide timely, effective, high-level proactive and responsive IT support and service to department users
- Prepare required system and user documentation
- Prepare timely and accurate required weekly work documentation and reports to ensure CIO is fully informed of work progress and issues
- Flexibly contribute to department projects and tasks to continually improve the delivery and maintenance of IT services within department
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
- A relevant tertiary IT Qualification with working experience in government or a similar environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Dot Net and Office application development (Office 2019 and 365):
- Proven experience in designing and building Word templates and ribbons
- Expert skill in T-SQL programming and SQL server
- Experience with or willing to learn:
- TRIM / CM API programming with integration to MS Office applications
- Web based system setup and management
- Knowledge in Dot Net based web site
- Support and maintenance of CMS and web site
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate and impart technical knowledge to a range of users, including IT Team members, management and end user staff
- Highly developed time management and organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure to meet agreed priorities and deadlines
- Highly developed problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Experience of working effectively as part of a team and demonstrated ability to initiate and lead a range of projects
- Experience in VBA programming would be an advantage
