Description:

The Project Delivery team provides management, leadership, professional and technical guidance in the delivery phases of the works; monitors the work being conducted; controls processes to ensure contract compliance and manages processes to ensure that the works are delivered to the required standards and in accordance with safe work methods and risk management practices.

Primary purpose of the role

The primary purpose of this role is to lead, direct and coordinate the delivery and management of one of the large-scale major works packages developing major infrastructure for Sydney Metro, with clearly defined scope, quality, time and cost constraints. The remaining Sydney to Bankstown line works will encompass asset management rail systems, civil works, stations and platform building works. The role provides management, leadership, professional and technical guidance in the delivery phases of the works; monitors the work being conducted; controls processes to ensure contract compliance and manages processes to ensure that the works are delivered to the required standards and in accordance with safe work methods and risk management practices.

The role will also have responsibility for multiple major stakeholders including local councils while addressing design issues.

The role will work closely as part of the Sydney Metro Executive management to source, leverage and lead the expertise and specialist technical resources required for the successful delivery of the Project.

The opportunity

As Delivery Director you will be expected to:

  • Determine business approach for one of the large-scale major works packages, provide input into the pre-feasibility and business stages of development, determine and implement works schedule and activities throughout project lifecycle and interface with functional units to ensure that the delivery teams receive functional unit support to the degree required to ensure efficient project delivery
  • Lead and manage the activities of the major works team and appointed delivery contractors in accordance with the Project’s Construction Management Plan, including the planning, management and construction of activities, and ensure timelines are met, works are fit for purpose and comply with statutory and legislative requirements
  • Develop detailed project budget and forecast cashflows / milestones from approved budget, recommend approval of costs and variations, monitor and control project costs, report on expenditure and address any slippage issues
  • Facilitate approval of project specific quality, and environmental requirements, ensure implementation of approved quality plan/process complies with project plans and all relevant standards
  • Manage, monitor and mitigate project risks through the risk management plan, provide high level advice to the Project Director in relation to risks and interdependencies, and contribute to monthly project reporting on progress, cost, quality, safety and environment issues to inform and support decision making
  • Ensure and promote safety and safe working via compliance with the System Requirement, Safety Responsibilities, Authorities and Accountabilities within the Safety Management System
  • Ensure the appropriate administration of all branch contract packages including the facilitation, review and approval of Contractor Management Plans to meet all contract requirements, contribute to tender assessment as required, including participating on tender evaluation committee and assist in the preparation of tender and contract documents
  • Act as a thought leader, remaining abreast of current and emerging planning issues and trends, including domestic and international best practice, innovative approaches and opportunities to support the achievements of the business objectives.
