The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is seeking to fill multiple Data Editor positions within the Labour Employer Surveys team. We are looking to fill these non-ongoing roles on either a full-time or part-time basis at the APS3 classification level.

Based on the needs of the hiring area, these roles are only available to be filled in Perth, although flexible working arrangements (including a hybrid model of working from home and the office) apply.

About the Area and the Roles

The Labour Employer Surveys Section is responsible for a suite of employer surveys which provide timely, high quality and policy relevant statistics about the structure and performance of the Australian labour market. Data are collected and produced in relation to average weekly earnings, job vacancies, industrial disputes, and employee earnings and hours.

The information produced enables policy analysts and other commentators to draw conclusions about the nature of the labour market, the effectiveness of policies and to formulate appropriate policies for the future.

As a Data Editor for Labour Employer Surveys, you will assist with a range of data analysis and validation activities. As part of a team, you will ensure tasks are completed within agreed time frames and to the required level of quality, including the production of the relevant publication and data outputs. Basic research and sound analytical skills are essential for the position. You will be provided both formal and on-the-job training upon commencement.

Responsibilities include:

  • Undertaking analysis on fine level payroll data, to ensure the reported data is accurate and classified correctly.
  • Daily phones calls to external providers in relation to the analysis of data, to verify accuracy and obtain additional information as required.
  • Utilising corporate systems to analyse, compile and produce relevant data outputs.
  • Assisting with the preparation of relevant written documentation supporting data. Including documentation of phone calls, amendments and explanations about the data and assisting with preparation of statistical output reports.
  • Ad hoc project work as required.
