About us

The NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) is an independent statutory authority responsible for the curriculum, assessment, teacher accreditation and regulatory standards in NSW schools, and accreditation of early childhood educators. NESA is responsible for developing policies and initiatives for evaluating and improving quality teaching and student learning across all schools and school sectors. NESA was formally established on 1 January 2017, in response to the need to adopt a more strategic and outward-looking focus, greater clarity of regulatory roles and responsibilities, and streamlined processes and systems.

About the role

The Curriculum Reform Advisor, Diversity is responsible for providing expertise to support syllabus development across Kindergarten to Year 12 for the curriculum reform process. Whilst the role covers Kindergarten to Year 12, specific expertise in senior secondary education is currently required. The role involves providing leadership and advice in relation to ensuring syllabuses are inclusive of diverse learners. Expertise in supporting students with disability is required. Expertise in supporting students for whom English is an additional language or dialect and gifted students is desirable. The role requires working collaboratively with the team of Subject Matter Experts across learning areas to ensure that syllabuses are developed using principles of inclusive design, and that learning is accessible and relevant for the range of learners. The Curriculum Reform Advisor, Diversity will assist syllabus writers and other Subject Matter Experts in ensuring syllabuses appropriately reflect NESA’s equity principles.

Essential requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in education and/or educational leadership or equivalent knowledge and experience
  • Extensive working knowledge and understanding of current and emerging curriculum and assessment legislation, policies, research, trends and issues relating to diverse learners
  • Expertise in teaching, learning and assessment for students with disability
  • Additional expertise in teaching, learning and assessment for students for whom English is an additional language or dialect and/or gifted students is desirable
  • Working with children check clearance.
