Counsellor

Description:

We are seeking a skilled and energetic Counsellor who possess a passion for person centred care. The role is responsible for delivering ongoing therapeutic sessions conducting psychosocial and mental health assessments; intake/assessment consultations; brief interventions and facilitating therapeutic groups. The position is required to ensure that appropriate treatment is conducted in consultation with clients of the service including the development of care plans, gathering of outcome measures and participating in clinical review processes.

Selection Criteria:
 

• Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia.
• Relevant tertiary qualifications in psychology, social work, counselling or other relevant behavioural sciences and eligibility for membership of the relevant professional association.
• Demonstrated experience with drug and alcohol clients that have complex needs using a range of therapeutic modalities.
• Demonstrated clinical skills in assessment, brief interventions with clients experiencing drug and alcohol problems and co-existing mental health issues.
• Demonstrated understanding of the health and social issues affecting people who use drugs, and the contemporary treatment approaches to addressing these.
• Demonstrated understanding of harm reduction and strengths-based approaches in working with substance use.
• Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication as well as interpersonal skills.
• High level computer skills: Microsoft Office, Patient Record Systems.
