We have an opportunity available for an experienced commercial lawyer to join our legal team based in Melbourne. Your role will be as a trusted advisor and partner to Australia Post and its subsidiary companies. You will be joining a collaborative and high performing in-house legal team. You will contribute towards our commercial success through the provision of legal services on a diverse range of projects and matters.
What does the role involve?
Reporting to the Deputy General Counsel, you will be responsible for advising stakeholders across the Australia Post group of companies. You will focus on:
- Delivering smart, commercial advice/ drafting and negotiating contracts that achieve business objectives and allocate risk in accordance with current risk appetite
- Advising the business on a wide range of legal and regulatory issues
- Identifying legal issues in existing business operations and in new business initiatives
- Supporting the development, implementation and maintenance of legal documentation and toolkits
- Supporting the development, implementation and maintenance of training, policies, procedures and compliance programs to promote business understanding of legal rights and obligations and a culture of compliance
- Keeping across legal and regulatory developments and anticipating emerging trends
- Optimising the value and quality of legal services from external legal resources

- Develop and maintain standard form legal documentation, resources, and toolkits
- Support the development of internal policies, training, and compliance programs aimed at the business
- Optimise the value and quality of legal services from external legal resources
- Assist in training the business to understand their legal rights and compliance obligations
What are we looking for?
- You will have > 5 years post-admission experience, having worked at a top or mid-tier firm, or demonstrated in-house or ACCC experience
- You will hold an unrestricted Australian legal practicing certificate
- You will have commercial acumen with excellent negotiation, drafting, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
- You will have the ability to build strong relationships and effectively influence internal and external stakeholders
- You will be a proactive lawyer with a positive attitude
- Experience with Franchise Law, Competition and Consumer Law and /or disputes would be highly regarded
