The Town of Claremont is a progressive local government that was established in 1898 for the picturesque riverside suburbs of Claremont and Swanbourne. It is a busy and forward focused local government with dedicated staff who are committed to making a difference at a local level.

The Town is looking for a Human Resource professional to lead our small but busy HR team. This role works closely with the Director Governance and People and provides end-to-end support for the entire employment life cycle.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Management of the Human Resources, business unit. This is a busy hands on role that oversees 3 part time staff members, a HR officer, WHS officer and payroll officer.
  • Active involvement in the recruitment process to ensure the Town employs the best candidates.
  • Coordination of the Town’s training and development program, based on organisational goals and performance assessment training and development needs.
  • Oversight of the management of the Town’s human resource records.
  • Preparation of high quality reports, provision of statistics and data and maintaining budgets.
  • The ability to interpret and apply the Town’s Enterprise Agreement and relevant legislation.
  • With the payroll officer, ensuring the accurate processing of the fortnightly payroll and monthly superannuation payments for the Town’s employees.
  • With the WHS Officer, run the Town’s WHS Committee and coordinate the delivery of relevant WHS training and development of WSH related policies.
  • Keeping up to date with best practice and relevant legislation and updating key stakeholders as required.

Experience in payroll and a knowledge of WHS legislation and general workplace safety issues is highly desirable but not essential. Alternatively, a willingness to learn as this role requires approval of the fortnightly payroll process and oversight of the Town’s WHS obligations including the WHS Committee.
