Deaf Connect have an exciting opportunity available in Townsville for a passionate Community Services Officer to support in our delivery of Community Access - an information and referral service for members of the Deaf and hard of hearing community.

Reporting to the Manager, Community Access, the role supports our friendly and collaborative Information Services team with a range of tasks that supports our community access service and programs. Key duties include responding to enquiries, developing networks and coordinating a range of client engagement activities to support, advocate and represent the deaf and hard of hearing community.

  • Ability to communicate in Auslan and knowledge of Deaf culture and community
  • Experience in provision of human services
  • Experience in information and referral services
  • Understanding of privacy and confidentiality issues
  • Organisational and time management skills, ability to plan and prioritise workload
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to interact positively with all levels of stakeholders
  • Ability to work well in a team as well as autonomously
  • Current driver’s license and reliable vehicle

You should also let us know if you have these other great skills:

  • Qualifications in Human Services or other Community Services discipline
  • Understanding of relative State and Federal Disability Services Acts
  • Understanding of human rights conventions and anti-discrimination legislation
  • NDIS work experience and understanding of the NDIS Code of Conduct
