HOBAN Recruitment are currently sourcing an experienced Communications Advisor to join our client, who is a State Government Agency.
The Communications Advisor will provide strategic community and stakeholder management services to technical and professional staff for community engagement, media relations, issues management, public affairs, and stakeholder relationship management.

- Expected start date: February 2023 - July 2023, with the possibility of extensions, pending business requirements
- Provide communication advice and support to the Project Directors, Communications Leads, managers in the areas of media and issues management, crisis communications, risk assessment and reporting, community engagement and communication.
- Expert accountability for crisis and reputation management strategies and identification of key risks involved with departmental actions.
- Develop strategies for stakeholder management and consult with a wide range of interest groups.
- Prepare communications materials, including ministerial briefings, newsletters, flyers, display materials, speech notes and others for the project.
- Coordinate community and stakeholder engagement activities for infrastructure projects in the region.
- Develop, plan and manage key communication activities such as road commissioning, launches, media opportunities and other events as required.
- Provide training, advice and support to project staff and consultants.
- Develop and implement communication strategies, activities, procedures and policies
- Ensure operational practices and standards of service and performance comply with departmental and regional policies, legislation (incl. WH&S), and governance obligations
- Prepare high level advice on a range of strategic policy, planning and regulatory issues.
- Undertake research and analysis of the potential short, medium, and long-term impacts and trends.
- Contribute to the preparation of reports, submissions, briefing notes, legislation, presentations, speeches, publications, and correspondence.
- Exercise judgement to effectively manage competing priorities.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and with other levels of government, industry and non-government organisations.
- Represent the Department at meetings, committees and interdepartmental working groups as required.
About you
- Must be a current holder of Class C Driver's License
- Must hold a Construction Industry Induction card (White Card)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as you will liaise with multiple internal and external stakeholders at various levels
- A degree in communications, public relations or marketing or equivalent years' work experience would be highly desirable.
- Previous experience in dealing with difficult stakeholders and critical conversations.
- Experience in major infrastructure project environments and social media competency, will also be highly regarded.
- Knowledge of the infrastructure planning lifecycle.
- Must be an Australian Resident or Permanent Resident
