Communications Advisor

The Communications Advisor, Intranet will work closely with the broader Strategic Communications team, the Technology, Digital and Innovation (TDI) project team and stakeholders at various levels across the organisation to implement a new intranet.

 

The role will contribute to the success of the City of Melbourne (CoM) by helping ensure content is accessible, current and engaging to drive a positive experience for CoM staff in how they access internal news, information and services.

This includes supporting the roll-out of a new governance model; conducting a comprehensive content audit, update and migration activities; training and coordination of a distributed network of organisational content authors; developing and delivering a comprehensive stakeholder communications plan; and participating in project activities to define information architecture, navigation, home page design, branding and templates.

Timely and active measurement and reporting is also critical deliverable for this role to ensure decisions and advice are data-led and user-centric

  • Ability to demonstrate and display City of Melbourne Values – accountability, integrity, courage, respect for self and others, and striving for excellence.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Media, Communications or Business with sound knowledge of change management.
  • Developed communication skills and demonstrated relevant experience in supporting integrated internal communication strategies.
  • Experience in providing advice on matters of high organisational risk and contributing to the development of communications solutions to rapidly evolving issues.
  • Ability to build and maintain strategic relationships with all key stakeholders to achieve successful internal communications outcomes for CoM’s strategic priorities.
  • A highly motivated, values-led, self-starter with the ability to operate independently to high standards.
  • Excellent grammar, spelling, punctuation and attention to detail.
  • Experience with SharePoint and the Adobe product suite (Photoshop, Premiere Pro or equivalent) is highly regarded.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to work to deadline in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understanding of information architecture principles, content management systems and web accessibility and usability best practice is highly advantageous, particularly experience in delivering accessible content compliant with WCAG AA guidelines.
  • Ability to work independently and pro-actively within a high volume environment and escalating matters as required ensuring timely resolution
