The Senior Manager, Code Compliance role offers an exciting opportunity to lead a team dedicated to supporting the work of the independent Life Insurance Code Compliance Committee (The Committee). You will play a critical role in monitoring and improving compliance with the Life Insurance Code of Practice, directly impacting industry standards and enhancing outcomes for consumers.
The Code Compliance and Monitoring Team is a separately funded business unit of the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA). The team supports independent committees to monitor compliance with Codes of Practice in the Australian financial services industry to help achieve standards people can trust. Codes of Practice set standards of good industry practice, often extending beyond the minimum standard required by law. The team aims to substantially improve industry standards and consumer protection and be the trusted and recognised leaders in Code compliance monitoring.
Typically, in this role you will:
- Coordinate and support the development of the Committee's workplan, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives, and timely and effective delivery.
- Implement the Committee's compliance priorities to uplift industry standards and protect the interests of consumers.
- Provide strategic leadership to a team in developing and implementing robust investigations, risk assessments and compliance monitoring that aligns with best practice and complies with the operational requirements of the Committee.
- Manage internal and external stakeholder relationships effectively and influence outcomes positively through those relationships.
- Plan, direct, and continuously improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the team. Lead and support business improvement and change management activities.
- Provide an environment for innovation and continuous improvement, driving collaboration across the broader Code Group.
- Effective people leadership, actively coaching for high engagement and success.
- In conjunction with the Committee and Executive, develop and manage the annual budget, and maintain oversight during the financial year.
- Represent the Code Group and the Committee on internal and external working groups, meetings and forums as required.
- Perform other duties or functions that could reasonably be expected of this role.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Experience in risk-based investigations, compliance, or regulatory roles preferably within the Financial Services sector.
- A proven track record of identifying and implementing business change to deliver efficient operational outcomes, maximise impact and foster a high-performance culture.
- Sound experience in communicating with influence, negotiating strategic outcomes, and managing stakeholder relationships effectively.
- The ability to contribute to strategic planning, execute business plans, and manage budgets.
- A strong track record of success in leading high-performing teams in a complex and demanding environment, including fostering an inclusive work environment where staff can develop and thrive.
- Highly developed written and oral communication skills, presenting information clearly and concisely for diverse audiences.
- The ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, work effectively under pressure, and collaborate within a team environment.
- Proficiency in analysing large data sets to identify trends, potential risks, and present findings and insights through clear and concise reports.
- An understanding of the Life Insurance sector or experience with Financial Services more broadly is desirable.
- The ability to travel interstate when required.
