About the role

The Queensland South Native Title Service (QSNTS) is seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to fill the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO). As CEO, you will be responsible for providing leadership and management to QSNTS in line with its strategic plan and the legal directives of the QSNTS Board.

 

The CEO is instrumental in supporting Native Title Claim Groups to achieve recognition of Native Title and fair compensation for impairment of native title rights and interests. You will lead interdisciplinary teams to provide expert advice on Native Title Determination Applications, Compensation Applications, and advocacy for law reform on Indigenous land rights and cultural heritage protection.

You will be an experienced senior executive with a passion for advocating for Indigenous rights. You will provide transformational leadership and have the ability to engage and communicate across a diverse range of stakeholders, from community members to all levels of government, and stakeholder organisations. You will possess qualities of integrity, diplomacy and sound judgement with the demonstrable ability to deal with conflict situations with tact and discretion. You will also have a strong skillset in governance and have experience working cooperatively and productively with Boards.

 

Key Selection Criteria

  • An undergraduate degree in a relevant field such as business, law, or anthropology, with a preference for candidates with postgraduate qualifications such as a Master of Business.
  • Demonstrated senior executive and senior leadership experience in implementing strategic plans and organisational strategies during a period of significant change.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency in dealing effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People and Organisations.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of, and demonstrated experience in, matters of Native Title and the Native Title Act with sound knowledge of the political environment in which QSNTS operates in.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to build relationships with key stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability in leading interdisciplinary teams and capacity-building across an organisation
