Description:
This position is based in Perth with regular travel to the Ngaanyatjarra Lands in the Western Desert area of Western Australia. The purpose of this position is to create and support business and contracting opportunities for Ngaanyatjarra people and entities on OZ Minerals’ West Musgrave Project and ensure that the contracting obligations contained in the WMP Mining Agreement are fully implemented.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting established and new Ngaanyatjarra Entities to develop for business and revenue growth.
- Supporting Ngaanyatjarra entities to meet selection criteria (qualifications and capability) contained in WMP contracts and work packages.
- Assisting Ngaanyatjarra entities to identify and pursue West Musgrave Project contract opportunities.
- Assisting Ngaanyatjarra entities with EOIs and proposal submissions.
- Identify gaps between the capacity of the Ngaanyatjarra entities and what will be required to successfully deliver their contracting obligations.
- Identify steps that Ngaanyatjarra entities could take, at their own cost or with the support of a source of funding other than OZ Minerals, to develop that capability.
- Ensure Ngaanyatjarra entities are fulfilling their awarded contract obligations and identify risks to that.
- Identify joint venture or subcontractor opportunities on open, awarded or shortlisted contracts.
- Build and maintain positive relationship with OZ Minerals’ Commercial Team.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with new and established Ngaanyatjarra entities.
- Initiate meetings with OZ Minerals’ main contractors to raise awareness about Ngaanyatjarra entities and seek subcontracting opportunities where applicable.
- Facilitate/support monthly meeting between OZ Minerals and Ngaanyatjarra Council and Ngaanyatjarra entities when required.
- Work closely with the WMP Implementation Team on other matters relevant to implementation of the WMP Mining Agreement.
Knowledge and Experience
- Ability to build rapport, influence and gain the trust of stakeholders.
- Demonstrated cross-cultural communication skills.
- Previous experience in working with Aboriginal people, communities, businesses, and representative organisations.
- Qualifications in relevant field: business; commerce; economics, or extensive relevant experience including business development projects, contracting and stakeholder engagement (especially in remote environments).
- Demonstrated experience in providing specialised expertise in Aboriginal engagement in commercial enterprise and relationship management.
- Demonstrated track record of achieving results in a commercial environment and the ability to facilitate and successfully execute projects and commercial agreements.
- Demonstrated ability and experience to proactively identify commercial opportunities and be able to deliver business development outcomes.
- Sound knowledge and understanding of State and Commonwealth Government economic development strategies and programs.
- Demonstrated ability to work largely unsupervised and build commercial networks.
- Highly developed teamwork, management and administration skills.
- Well-developed written and oral communication skills.
- Current driver’s license and Working with Children Check or ability/willingness to obtain these.
What you are expected to bring to the team
- Knowledge of the mining industry, particularly in remote areas.
- Knowledge and experience in the implementation of Native Title Agreements and the WA Mining Act.
- Multitasking and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks.
- Knowledge/understanding of the challenges affecting Western Desert Aboriginal people and/or Aboriginal people living in remote areas.
