Coffs Harbour Health Campus is a 292 bed, role delineation level five teaching hospital and is the major referral centre for residents of Coffs Harbour, Bellingen and Nambucca Local Government areas. The hospital provides a broad range of specialist services including general medicine, surgery, day surgery, planned and emergency theatre service, coronary care (including coronary angiography unit), intensive care, obstetrics, paediatrics, 24-hour Emergency Department, oncology, palliative care, rehabilitation, stroke, acute renal dialysis, mental health (including high dependency) and outpatient clinics. Coffs Harbour Health Campus is the major trauma centre of the north coast servicing from JHH to GCU.
The temperate climate all year round lends itself well to the many outdoor activities such as surfing, sailing, whale watching, deep sea fishing, and golfing at the Internationally acclaimed BIG Course. Coffs Harbour is the perfect base from which to explore the many towns and villages within the Coffs Coast such as Bellingen, Sawtell, and Woolgoolga and slightly further up the highway is Byron Bay. A short 55 minutes by plane to Sydney with 6 flights per day and an even shorter to flight to Brisbane three days a week. There is also the option for a weekend getaway to Melbourne or the Sunshine Coast with direct flights. The region’s calendar is full of events such as the Pittwater to Coffs Harbour Yacht Race, Coffs Harbour International Buskers & Comedy Festival, Bellingen Jazz & Blues Festival, Woolgoolga’s Curryfest, Sawtell’s Chilli Festival and various other local shows and Food & Wine festivals.
The city is a regional hub for business and Government and offers an excellent range of public and private schools, including North Coast TAFE, Southern Cross University, NSW University Rural Clinical School (UNSW), National Marine Science Centre and Regional Conservatorium of Music.
The primary purpose of the position is to manage patients requiring intensive care, those at risk of clinical deterioration requiring intensive care, plus pre- and post-intensive care evaluation, whilst participating in the core training program of the College of Intensive Care Medicine.
Critically ill patients include patients with life-threatening single and multiple organ system failure, those at risk of clinical deterioration as well as those requiring resuscitation and/or management in an intensive care unit. Intensive Care Trainees work under the supervision of Specialist Intensive Care Physicians, assisting to manage, diagnose and treat the disturbances associated with severe medical, surgical, obstetric and paediatric illness and the conditions that cause them. This may include management of deteriorating and seriously ill patients outside the intensive care unit as well as the intra-hospital transport of critically ill patients.
