Description:

Aviation Operations, a stream within the Aviation Land and Maritime Transport Program, provides the aviation industry with specialised meteorological services contributing to efficient and effective aviation operations within the Australian Flight Information Regions and the Asia-Pacific Region.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated leader to manage the operations, staff and finances of the Aviation Forecasting Centre (AFC) located in Brisbane.

The successful applicant will demonstrate significant experience as a team leader in an operational service delivery environment. Additionally, the applicant will be a strong communicator and have excellent interpersonal and project management skills.

The successful applicant will have high level leadership and team management experience and will contribute to the strategic planning of the Aviation Operations stream. They will have accountability for staff development, capability building and will work closely with staff across Aviation Operations, Aviation Service Development and Transport Customer Engagement streams to ensure optimum operational outcomes.

The Aviation Operations Delivery Team is responsible for the provision of accurate, timely and effective meteorological services to the aviation industry on a cost recovery basis.
The primary roles of the Operations Manager are to work within a quality management framework to provide effective and efficient operational management of the Brisbane AFC, ensure the ongoing professional development of Aviation Operations staff and coordinate activities to improve the value of services provided to aviation customers.

The AFC is co-located with National Production Brisbane and Hazard Preparedness and Response Queensland. The Operations Manager will work closely with the Managers of those teams to coordinate staff activities, ensuring a harmonious workplace. They will also work closely with Community Services Group operations managers to coordinate aviation staff resources, contributing to the resilience of the Bureau's National Operations. The Operations Manager will also work closely with their counterparts in the Aviation Operations management team to manage a highly resilient and a nationally consistent aviation service.

The position requires an extensive knowledge of operational aviation meteorology and customer requirements as well as high level management and leadership skills.
The Operations Manager is responsible for the performance management and professional development of subordinate staff and will be required to show good organisational, mentoring and training skills along with good judgement, initiative, maturity and a commitment to personal development.

The Operations Manager has responsibilities for the quality management of aviation meteorological services, including analysing the effectiveness of these services, identifying deficiencies and implementing improvements. The Operations Manager will be required to monitor output, maintain and analyse performance statistics and advise on and address perceived issues.

The Operations Manager will work with teams across the Aviation, Land and Maritime Transport Program, receiving support from a local aviation team providing capability in aviation competency and assessment, industry liaison, rostering and administration.

The Operations Manager will require a high standard of written and verbal communication skills to build relationships and communicate effectively with the meteorological community and the aviation industry.
