We currently have an opportunity for an Architect Design Lead to join the Stockland Design Studio in Sydney, to focus on built form apartments, mixed-use developments, and medium density housing.

The Stockland Design Studio is an in-house team of design experts focusing on creating value, delivering ‘a better way to live’ and consistently driving quality, and customer centricity to our projects. The Stockland Design Studio works on both Projects and Strategic Initiatives which provide collective benefit and innovation. The team collaborate with external design consultants, provide Design leadership and guidance, drive best practice, and customer/community centricity from acquisition/big picture to finer details.

The Opportunity - About the Role

Reporting to the Co-head of Design, the purpose of this role is to lead across projects in strategic manner.

The position requires interaction and collaboration with all members of project delivery teams from development, project management, cost planning, sustainability, sales, marketing and research teams. Working on projects, to assist and collaborate with external design consultants to deliver customer and community outcomes, creating value, delivering quality and realising commercial success.

There is also responsibility to contribute to a culture of design excellence and be involved in strategic design initiatives. It will be important to have a good knowledge of current and changing macro trends in residential and mixed-use projects and a thorough understanding of statutory standards and technical requirements for residential developments. Additionally, a customer focus and an ability to apply innovative thinking and problem solving to optimise solutions is important.

Key Responsibilities Will Include But Not Be Limited To:

• Contribute, expand & evolve components of design guidelines, best practice benchmarks, standards, tools & process for quality control and efficiencies metrics to scale effort and IP.
• Share best practice to empower project teams and continually improve people’s understanding of design, master planning & urban design and its value.
• Lead, support, assist and contribute to design initiatives and activities that align to the design strategy and deliver on Stockland’s purpose.
• Assist Business Development team on acquisitions opportunities nationally, as required, by preparing reference Design Scheme Design and yield assessments or by guiding, reviewing, and commenting on external consultant schemes.
• Assist in project visioning and design development for projects.
• Assist in design consultant selection, briefing and engagement as required. Develop the Design Brief.
• Provide specialist design advice/reviews and contribute to workshop through various stages of delivery.
• Ensure creative and analytical thinking resulting in consistently efficient, high-quality outcomes.
• Engage and assist when required with community-based workshops, seminars and meetings.
• Assists in the review of shop drawings/AFC sample and substitutions - related to Customer Experience & Design Intent.
