At SCC the Animal Management Officer role provides customer focused enforcement of Council’s Local Laws, policies and relevant State legislation as they relate to animal management, with an emphasis on education and self-regulation. Key responsibilities of this role include:

• Investigate complaints, serve notices, impound or seize animals, including cats, dogs and livestock in accordance with relevant legislation
• Provide professional, technical advice and support in relation to Council’s Local Laws and State legislation pertaining to animal management
• Make timely enquiries and gather evidence for the prosecution of offences, issue and serve infringement notices and appear for Council as a witness in court
• Manage the care, release, rehoming and euthanasia of animals impounded or seized by Council in accordance with the relevant Laws and Legislation
• Carry out cleaning duties to ensure the animal pound facility is maintained in a clean, healthy and safe manner
• Assist Vet in the control of animals, if required, during euthanasia or assessments.
• Microchip cats and dogs, where qualification current
• Assist in the design, management and delivery of regular inspection programs pertaining to the registration of cats and dogs in the community.
• Undertake patrols of beaches, parks, reserves, roads and other Council controlled land for breaches of local laws
