About the Brisbane Magistrates Court
The Queensland Magistrates Courts play a vital role in the delivery of justice services. It is in this jurisdiction that the majority of Queenslanders first come into contact with the judicial system. Magistrates Courts deal with approximately 96 per cent of all criminal cases, handling the highest volume of court cases of any Queensland Court. Most civil actions are heard in the Magistrates Court jurisdiction. Brisbane Magistrates Court (BMC) is situated at 363 George Street, with the Brisbane Arrest Courts at 240 Roma Street. There are 91 staff currently employed at BMC, with a further ten staff employed by the Office of the Chief Magistrate. BMC has 18 Magistrates.

People who work within the courts environment can be exposed to some harrowing and distressing circumstances. Exposure to those circumstances can result in people experiencing vicarious trauma. In this role, via your day-to-day work, as Court Services Officer, you may be exposed to information about offending behaviours, criminal activity and other explicit, distressing or offensive content. Court Services Queensland has a range of strategies in place to help prevent vicarious trauma and support staff who experience vicarious trauma as a result of their work. However, personal resilience and individual coping strategies are an important factor. You should consider this carefully before applying for the role

  • Deliver administrative support to ensure the efficient and effective operation of Queensland Court Services registries, including the provision of information to members of the public, jurors and other internal and external courts' users and partners about court and registry services;
  • Comply with administrative processes, policies and procedures relating to the operation of the court and registry to ensure the delivery of quality services to relevant clients and stakeholders;
  • Prepare, process and manage correspondence, court documents, exhibits, and documents of an administrative and/or financial nature in accordance with legislation and departmental policies and procedures in a timely and accurate manner;
  • Use, update and monitor relevant databases, registers and files, ensuring accuracy of data, and that systems are used in line with departmental guidelines;
  • Efficiently operate court technology as required;
  • Any other reasonable tasks as delegated by the Registrar.
