Account Manager – Academia & Research

Reports to Regional Sales Manager - NSW

Position Location: North Ryde, Sydney


How will you make an impact?

You will be responsible for maximising sales via strategic business development, account management and pipeline health for the broad Thermo Fisher portfolio within the NSW Academia & Research territory. Overall management of customers with the objective of achieving territory financial targets, identifying growth opportunities, and developing strong customer / company relationships. This is a high profile, high value, predominately office-based sales role, adopting the communication preferences of customers in the territory.

What will you do?

  • Achieve and exceed sales territory financial targets and objectives
  • Grow business in line with company targets, including developing and maintaining sales opportunities, managing customer relationships and utilising Salesforce to maximise opportunity/benefit
  • Ensure that an effective customer contact program is implemented and managed to maximise sales growth & key customer relationships
  • Utilise face to face and virtual meetings to maximise effectiveness, targets – 1 full field day per week, plus 20 virtual meetings
  • Pre-planning of sales calls in order to achieve objectives and call planning and reporting in SalesForce
  • Develop and implement key account plans and strategies in line with marketing and sales management objectives
  • Report and communicate internally in order to ensure opportunities are being maximised and customer (external & internal) expectations are being met
  • Update Product Managers and Management team on activities, progress to goals, & market intelligence (via SalesForce.com & general feedback)
  • Maintain a professional and positive attitude whilst being committed to our company values of integrity, intensity, innovation and involvement

How will you get here?

  • Tertiary qualification or equivalent, preferably in business and/or scientific field
  • Previous Sales experience with accountability for achievement of KPI’s and Financial Targets and or similar technical support role
  • Ability to travel State wide and inter State when and if required
  • Comprehensive knowledge and confidence in the sales process
  • High standard of computer literacy

  • A proven background in the area of sales including a strong awareness of the sales and negotiation processes and an ability to sell creatively/competitively.
  • An ability to develop and execute sales and account plans in line with marketing and key customer objectives
  • An ability to think strategically and laterally in order to maximise business opportunities, profitability and customer potential
  • An ability to understand technical products and related markets/customers
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to easily build strong customer relationships and rapport at all levels of authority.
  • Strong organisational skills with an ability to prioritise, manage time effectively and meet agreed deadlines
