Building on its outstanding reputation for teaching and learning excellence the School of Arts and Humanities, Edith Cowan University is engaged in a three-year program of course renewal and development. The new courses are aimed at better preparing undergraduate and postgraduate students for a wide range of creative and caring professions; they will reinforce existing strengths while introducing new approaches and possibilities.
We seek a highly motivated senior lecturer to coordinate and invigorate the development of our portfolio of future courses.
The Role
The Academic Coordinator – Future Courses (ACFC) will work principally to support and facilitate academic course leaders in the successful design, development, and implementation of new courses. In doing so the ACFC will work across all discipline and course areas within the school, interacting regularly with school executive members, course coordinators, discipline leads, and other academics involved in course design.
Reporting to the Associate Dean, Teaching and Learning (ADTL), the Coordinator will be responsible for a range of tasks including, but not limited to:
Coordinating the work of course leads to ensure timely delivery of effective new courses;
Developing academic capabilities for successful unit and course development;
Drafting and reviewing proposals for new and revised courses for approval;
Providing advice on all aspects of course design, development, and implementation;
Liaising with stakeholders to support the course approvals and development process; and
Supporting the successful transition of students from current to new course offerings.
The Successful Candidate
The successful candidate will be skilled in academic course development, including learning design, academic quality and standards compliance, and the process of implementing agreed courses for successful delivery. Academic qualifications and experience in a discipline relevant to the School’s current teaching and research would be an advantage. More specifically, the successful candidate will be judged relative to the following selection criteria:
A PhD compatible with the broad range of interests in the School of Arts and Humanities at ECU. (We welcome applications from candidates close to completion of their PhD).
Proven ability to design units and courses of study informed by contemporary scholarship of learning and teaching.
Demonstrable commitment to enabling academic staff at all levels of seniority to design and create courses and units of study in a timely and effective manner.
Effective engagement with university staff across a range of disciplines and academic approaches in addressing the need for educational innovation and pedagogical reform.
Clear understanding of general approaches to curriculum management and change in a university setting that is informed by experience in tertiary education and proven ability to work effectively with key stakeholders in curriculum development and approval processes.
