Aboriginal And Torres Strait Islander Cadet

Description:

Metro South Hospital and Health Service invites you to become part of our allied health Indigenous Cadets!
Metro South Health is committed to Closing the Gap and increasing the participation rate of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in our workforce through providing a paid work placement to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who are engaged in full-time tertiary studies in an allied health degree.
The cadetship offers students who are studying a full-time tertiary qualification in allied health with the opportunity to perform a range of clinical support activities and develop their skills on the job. Cadets work under the delegation and supervision of a health professional in their field to provide effective patient care.
This is a program to improve the under-representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in allied health and is an equal opportunity measure under section 105 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991. In relation to an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identified role, an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person is a person who identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and is either:

  • of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent; or
  • accepted as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community in which he or she lives.

Cadetships are available starting in 2023 across Metro South Health with positions being offered in Physiotherapy, Nutrition and Dietetics, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Medical Imagining, Pharmacy and Speech Pathology;
Cadets are employed in a fixed-term, part time capacity for 10 weeks as a developmental work experience placement. The 10-week work placement component has the ability to be undertaken in a flexible schedule to ensure cadets are able to balance full-time study commitments and clinical placements that fulfil course requirements. The work placement component of the cadetship must be completed within one calendar year from commencement.
